Peaceful holidays

The Pyrinees

The main attraction of the Pyrenees in Navarre are its Nature and landscape. The northern area has a wide range of accommodation options: campsites or hostels and rural houses, apartments and hotels. All of them will give you the opportunity to feel close to the mountains and enjoy their silent nights.

When you wake up in a farmhouse in April and open the window you will have a feeling of Nature invading your room with an aroma of dew and green grass. The whispering leaves of the chestnut and beech trees invites you to stroll along the paths through the Selva de Irati or explore the Pyrenean valleys with their picturesque villages. There are so many places waiting to be rediscovered: Aezcoa with its hórreos (outdoor granaries), Baztán and its noble houses, the rolling and green Ultzama valley, the flat, open plains in the Urbasa range and its latxa sheep?

There are many legendary and historical places in this quiet, relaxing countryside: the Royal Collegiate Church of Roncesvalles, where the Pilgrim's Way to Santiago enters Navarre, or the Romanesque church of San Miguel de Aralar, whose main treasure is its 12th-century enamel and rock crystal altarpiece.

A stroll in the Pyrenees opens up your appetite. An extensive menu is on hand: beef and lamb, foie, duck confit, wild mushrooms, salmon or trout, and game dishes during the hunting season. For dessert, sheep's' cheese -with Roncal or Idiazábal designation of origin, canutillos (conical wafers) with cream, cuajada (junket) or costrada from Aoiz.
